Hello fellow Mageians

I'm not quite sure what kind of community I have just joined, but I was following a search regarding the Brother DSMobile 620 document Scanner. I typed into my search box " Cardboard framed photo slide scanning on the DSMobile" and it came up with this web site. What I was trying to find out, which did not appear to be in the user manual for this device, was the "rules" for scanning (e. g.) old Kodachrome, where the slides frames are roughly 1/16 inch thick. I was trying to find out what the limit of thickness would be allowable in scanning such slides, and of course also to be sure whether or not these kinds of slides can be safely scanned without damaging the device. So, they are not just film strips, or slides without (what used to be called) a mounting. Does anyone know anything about this sort of thing, and would it include plastic mounted slides as well?

Thanks in anticipation of answers.

Hi there,

you just sold your soul in joining this community, to work as a contributor for Mageia in your spare time all day long

No, seriously - you should probably contact Brother customer support for this kind of question.

You're talking about this scanner? http://www.brother.co.uk/scanners/ds620
You should probably look for a more specialised scanner which can do slides.
E.g. my old Canon CanoScan 8600F had a special tray for those, not sure if that portable scanner can handle them at all.
See also http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/scanrex.htm for some more recommendations for specialised scanners.
