Suggestion: poster with quick installation guide of Mageia

Postby macxi » May 26th, '11, 04:15

Hello,

I am suggesting a poster for beginners, a guide to installing Mageia to be linked to the wiki, with guidance on installation.

I made this poster last year for Wiki MandrivaBrasil, this year I adapted for wiki MageiaBrasil (in portuguese) and now I translate into english as a suggestion.

I don't know if the translation is correct.

I am also suggesting a slogan for Mageia (at the end of the poster):

"User Community Mageia Linux"
"Helping to expand the freedom of choice. "

Or better: "Mageia Linux"
"Expanding the freedom of choice ""

What do you think? Suggestions or criticism?
Are there recommendations about the use of the image of Mageia?

Cheers! :)

One short remark: it's "Mageia", not "Mageia Linux".

Oliver,
Thanks for the suggestions.
It is done.

"User community Mageia. Expanding the freedom of choice"

I guess you did the final compilation in inkscape? I'd like to use it for a German poster. If I find something to be improved I will share it, of course.
Best would be a tarball of all included files, I could also put it on a server for all to share.

Just use my googlemail address from the mailing lists.

Wobo,

I linked below, as you suggested, two svg files, both with images embed, not linked.

Without filter --> Quick-Installation-Guide-Mageia1-001.svg

With filter --> Quick-Installation-Guide-Mageia1-001-with-filters.svg

The difference between them is minimal. One is without Inkscape filters and the other with just a simple filter inkscape, "black outline" (Toolbar: filter/basic/black outline), that makes the border of the larger images.

After you export the svg from inkscape to image in PNG format, to edit in Gimp, perhaps, need to make a small correction in the width of the layer.

If there is any problem with the pictures or if you have any suggestion, just tell

Cheers! :)

Thx a lot, this is just what I wanted. Now I can do an easy translation using the built-in xml editor of inkscape!
And the best thing is, exporting it as eps gives you a scalable poster to be printed in any size!

I'd very much like to have all such posters with text to be done in inkscape, makes life easy on translators, maintainers (if one of the screenshots changes or other corrections have to be made), etc. !

Good job, macxi!

I'm afraid not before next week (will have to spend time offline (for the rest of today) and will try to help with ISO tests).
But of course I will do it - not only translate text but also use German screenshots.

Wobo,

I made three posters about what I consider basic to learn linux.
1 - Install the distribution;
2 - Install the repository (media) and;
3 - Install the software.

The poster of the "Mageia Installation" is already translated above.

Link below to translate the Quick Guide to "Install Media" and Quick Guide for "install software".

The file in SVG are linked with the images still don't have the file with embedded images. But I can do it. If someone calls, I submit here..

Well, not having the time now to look closely, I'd really like you to send the svg files for later usage (editing, translating, etc.).

I imagine you are very busy next two weeks, before and after the release of Mageia 1.

On one side, was better to discuss those posters only next week, after the launch of Mageia 1.

But, on the other side, the week following the launch of Mageia 1 is a good time to publicize Mageia, so, I thought would be best to ask.

But, I can try to translate the texts and images (in Virtualbox) for english and german language in these next few days (weekend). If I can, I sending you to evaluate.

Cheers! :)

Thx for your work, but Google translator is not that good (sorry Google!).
I will also use German screenshots and translating the strings is easily done in inkscape.

Wobo,

The German text, I can not fix, still wrong, but I copied the installation images Megeia in German language and includes the poster and svg file.

German-Quick-Installation-Guide Mageia.

Note: The installation images are of the Mageia LiveCE beta2, after installing, the images are of Mageia RC.
Will be changes or new in appearance, after the release? If many changes occur, then these signs will have to be redone after the release of Mageia 1, next week. :)

At least the entry screen is different (no "For testing only" any more).

I will dedicate tomorrow to these posters and will come back when it's done. Thx so far!

As I said, do not put too much time in that now, I'll fix errors in images (using final preview ISOs) and in English and German translation.
Stay tuned... :)

Wobo,

Just as a suggestion, I tested and applied more one filter of Inkscape on images:

a) first, I applied the filter "black outline" (toolbar: filter/ABCs/black outline), which makes the edge of images and;

b) after, over the filter "black outline", I applied the filter "combined lighting" (toolbar: filter/bevels/combined lighting).

c) the text frame were only applied the filter "combind lighting".

It seemed interesting.

Cheers!

For starters, simple tips.

The same poster in portuguese is available on the wiki MageiaBrasil, with additional information about the installation (see "Instalar MAGEIA KDE LiveCD", Install Medias and Install e remove software
