Presentation of Mageia for beginners with website

Postby macxi » Sep 11th, '11, 20:34

Hello,

I show below a suggestion to be placed in Mageia Wiki, in page of tips for beginners.

It is a presentation of Mageia for beginners, with a site that shows the graphical environment and some basic tips and setting.

I'm still editing, to be developed. but provided below, the first drafts:

-------->> Click on the image to access the site - after, click the widgets panel <<------

-------->> Click on the image to access the site <<------

Note: These html pages were edited with the "Kompozer", version 0.8b1 Image, in Mageia 1.

maat, what do you think, can we link this somehow into our MAQeia section?
Maybe even on the main page, as documentation?

Doktor5000 and Isadora,

Thanks for the encouraging words.

A few years ago, I would not recommend Linux for beginners. After Mandriva 2010.0, which was very stable and easy, so I started to recommend for beginners and I have tried to do simple tips. And now I continue with the Mageia, which is great.

Since last year I proposed (in Forum MandrivaBrasil), the creation of simple tips. Now I am advocating here in Mageia too.

I am proposing to present "what is Mageia" with a website. I wrote a text advocating this idea in MageiaBrasil Forum: "Re: Suggestion disclosure Mageia: create website that simulates the distro" (in portuguese: Re: Sugestão divulgação Mageia: criar site que simula a dist).

I know what Is possible to do beautiful things with the website, but is very expensive to contract a web design company to edit a website.

What I did is very simple and not very pretty, but is still only a draft, a suggestion. I hope you enjoy and that in the future, the "permanent Mageia wiki" has pages of tips for beginners, just that.
Cheers :)

Doktor5000, Isadora and Maja,

I have improved the website with the presentation of Mageia.
Don't have explanatory text or tips, just images.
I did a series of arrows showing the pictures to click, indicating the first steps in Mageia. I hope you enjoy
Cheers :)

Isadora,

I made a joke with the invitation "follow the white rabbit", known from the movie Matrix, but in fact is the story of Alice in Wonderland. While in other stories, princesses lived melancholy waiting for Prince Charming, the Alice of Lewis Carroll, even if in a dream, do not hesitate to follow that white rabbit and live an adventure.

@ Macxi,

I just saw your new presentation about how to use Mageia and I think this is so good... não sei o que dizer, não tenho palavras para dizer o que penso, só sei que estás a fazer uma apresentação mais que boa.

Marja,
Yes, the main idea is that all this material is available to be edited according to the convenience of Mageia Team, and I'm available to help as a contributor.

Hi,

I'm editing another website to new users, summarizing in five items "the dynamics" of using a distro linux, that, in my opinion is:

1 - join community of users
2 - download
3 - test the distro
4 - Install
5 - Use

See website suggestion here (under construction).

I put the "join community" first, becouse I guess its the best way to get information about the other phases, especially for beginners, that often don't know how is important and interesting - for those using linux - to participate and colaborate in a community of users.

Cheers :)

Hi,

Ubuntu has created a website to introduce the interface of Ubuntu-Unity here in English. The idea is to present the interface without installing, just through a website.

I presented a similar idea in June 2011, here in the Mageia Forum and the MageiaBR Forum. The proposal was just presenting the graphical environments of Mageia via Internet.

The proposed site MAGEIA for beginners: see here

The proposal for a presentation of MAGEIA-KDE graphical environment: see the index here.
Obviously it is only a rough proposal, it is with many mistake, but it is still a proposal that I still think is interesting, and translated (in part) for the English and French.

This presentation of the Ubuntu desktop/Unity can be a test for these kind of proposal. I like to know that the Ubuntu team found that this is a good way to introduce this new interface Unity.

I think it's a good way to present the interface of KDE also, in many of its details. And I still think it may be a proposal for a presentation especially for new users, beginners.

I enjoyed doing this as an initial proposal to spread the idea and collectively discuss the usefulness or not of it (see cost / benefit). I know it takes money to do something better, more professional.
