Leaving Mageia

Postby Plisgyn » Sep 1st, '25, 15:11

I have been with Mageia since the first version and Mandriva before that but I have now decided to move on. I give thanks to all who have worked to support Mageia over the years and wish you all the best for the future.

May life treat you well.
Thanks for your interest into Mageia.

It's always sad when someone leaves the community.
I wish you all the best.
Out of curiousity, can I ask why are you leaving?

My new PC with Windows 11 ( which is not my major system ) uses Secure Boot which Mageia doesn't support and so I now am trying Fedora which does.

I guess it's also a possibility to use Fedora's bootloader which then loads Mageia or any other OS.

Also though all the maintainers of Mageia work hard the updates are at times slow in coming.

You can disable Secure Boot from your bios.
AFAIK Secure Boot is strictly necessary only if you play games that require anti-cheat. Some anti-cheat games require it, while others don't. The ones that do require it depend heavily on the motherboard installed.

I can confirm this. I have Secure Boot disabled and just installed Windows 11 and Mageia 9 successfully on my machine and I can boot and use both of them 8-)

Just make sure the CSM (compatibility support module) is disabled on your mainboard so that UEFI is used (instead of the buggy legacy BIOS).
