[SOLVED] Where to get Mageia artwork/icons?

Postby gideon » Sep 7th, '11, 19:05

Hi all, I found this page http://www.flickr.com/groups/mageia-art/pool/page2/

But it doesn't look like any of the art is downloadable, and trying to right click gives a copyrighted message so I guess it's on purpose.

I want some icons so I can change my avatar to one Mageia related. Where can I obtain such icons?

Well, when i first wanted to download something from Flickr, almost went crazy, too.
That's how i did it: Click on the picture you like, click Actions above the picture -> Show all sizes
and from there you can download the size you like.

The SVG for that one you won't find on Flickr, mailed the Author for it to do some little changes on it.
Although i'd like the general avatar display slightly bigger, so "Mageia" would be clearly readable on the Orb :)
But yours is also cool, looks like some crazy mixture of Beasty (from BSD) and Cauldron.

When I saw the [SOLVED] title, I expected a link to a tarball with svg artworks... :|

So anyone wanting to play with the mageia logo need to ask the author for the svg file or have to redraw it from raster picts ?

By the way, this is a great logo for such a Linux distro 8-)

Well... this weekend I plan to make my first Mageia installation. 8-) (FitPC2i as gateway/proxy/etc)
I hope to see an animated Mageia logo with bubbles going out of the cauldron during the install process :geek:
Otherwise I will be very disappointed  and turn back to try Mandriva 2011. :D
No, seriously, if there isn't such a cool animation, I'll make one as a gif to show what I mean and I will send it to the team.

Well, don't do a gif animation, just do a proper plymouth theme and send it to the theme :)

Maybe you should talk to TeaAge, he's in the artwork team and did some fixes for our plymouth theme ;)

There is such an animation, but not during the installation process (though I would really be awesome if such a feature would be included in Mageia 2). You have it during each boot thanks to our plymouth theme (at least when you boot KDE, I don't know if it's the same animation for GNOME).

Well, i think he means animated bubbles bubbling, not a pseudo-animation like the current ksplash (no offense intended)

I did boot on Live CD for an install.
I've seen the cauldron with bubbles displayed as a "bar graph" progression of the X session startup.

Yes, what I mean is animated bubbles: appearing at the bottom, going up, and vanishing at the top a reduced size.

As part of a side-project that the artwork team might be thinking of working on, I had created an animated cauldron.
It can be downloaded from here.
To view the animation you need to be using a modern(ish) browser and you may need to turn off any script-blocking software you are using.
Like all Mageia artwork, this distributed under a CC By-SA license.

Share and enjoy!

Max, thank you for this SVG.
It show that many of us look for something bubbling ;)

I wonder if making bubbles going up and disappearing is supported in svg...

If you can code it in Javascript, it can be done. ;)
In fact, you can use that image I sent as a base for it. Just change the run() function a little bit.
There are 5 bubbles, in 5 different sizes. Currently it moves the 5 bubbles around really quickly so that it looks like the bubbles are growing and popping.
Instead, you can move them around so that it appears as if they are rising from the cauldron.
I might have another go at it and see if I can do it...

Huh? I just clarified what drakeia meant. I'm not into artwork.

I know, I'm just having fun, the pseudo animated ksplash that we have is by far the most complex ksplash I have ever seen. And it was a pain to get it to work properly, but you are right, it isn't a real animation, yet, but then again, ksplash doesn't support real animation.

Not even an animate GIF? Or, preferably, JS in an SVG?

No, for that you need the ksplash-mga engine, which we disabled for 1 but could use for 2.

Thinking about this a little more.
We need to keep the mageia logo intact as a visual, yes it can be broken up a little, and possible something similar to the ksplash where the word mageia is unaltered, only the actual cauldron logo changes. howver, I feel that the bubbles would have to stay in the same pattern that they are in now. So just 5 occurrences, with the final state being identical to the unaltered logo.

As for ksplash - KDE4.8 has a new engine, so we will be finally dropping ksplash-mga-engine and switching to it. As KDE4.8 isn't in Cauldron yet, but its release is set for january 25th, I imagine that we will have it soon and can start work on a new theme.
