I cannot install a software [0AD game, current]

Postby TomasRC » Jan 30th, '15, 01:04

I can not get 0ad Alpha 17x.
I would like, not Apha 14.x, which I find in the software tool, but the latest, which is 17.x
I don't want to mess around and break this box. I have readed that I need to use RPMFusion repo. I have no idea how to, which one I need to use or even if I should.
Late model PC, multi-core, 64 bit, Mageia 4

Anyone know, and would like to hand-hold me?
Thanks.

RPMFusion would be for Fedora, not for Mageia.

What you would need to do is rebuild the src.rpm from cauldron as described e.g. in viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5530

src.rpms:
ftp://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/m ... a5.src.rpm
ftp://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/m ... a5.src.rpm
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

Wading into dependency hell.

I got thsoe two 0ad source files, as pointed to above.

They needed build dependencies.

I found and installed gloox-1.0.9

Now needing
mozjs24-devel

RPM search.
Mageia, mandrivn, fedora, redhat, Opensuse?????????????

I found this:
lib64mozjs24-devel-24.2.0-5.mga5.x86_64.rpm
It will not instal.
I don't like going to the other distro's sources to hunt down dependencies.
How do I enable that Cauldron?
Nevermind [I hope] I am now using cauldron.
I will probably break this system...... But.

Everything in my computing is a test..... so......
I might as well dive into this. See what I learn.

A HAPPY NOTE:
X-Plane flight simulator is working like a champion in the Mageia OS. It is one of the softwares I MUST have working, 0ad is not one of those, but I really like it*........ :P
And the 0ad latest game installs to and runs on Ubuntu just fine too, so I can easily access it and use it, after a reboot.

EDIT
Uh, I think I have just made this version Mageia4 into Magiea5 testing, is that right? AFter the terminal finished the agonizing update [it is printing some scarey stuff in there!] going on in the terminal, I am already imagingin what is gonna happen after a reboot.
Well:
Everything in my computing is a test..... so......

UPDATE

Now see this:
The following 2 packages are going to be installed:

- 0ad-0.0.17-0.alpha.3.mga5.x86_64
- 0ad-data-0.0.17-0.alpha.2.mga5.noarch

1.3GB of additional disk space will be used.

549MB of packages will be retrieved.

Is it ok to continue?

I am now swimming around in a cauldron.....
:)

In for a penny, in for a pound.
Here goes..........

UPDATE:
0AD Alpha XVII : Quercus build 15849

INININ

UPDATE TO UPDATE:

Still, no unit formations in the way the toy soldiers move. I need the developement version of the game, becuase the one I found does not support unit formations, all the toy soldiers move around in a mob. SO, I am now in the SVN and getting the latest LATEST unstable testing code. Which does support unit formations [the devs are recoding lots of stuff and the unit formations are under dvelepment too, and that is why there aren't any in the version that was released on [I think it was] Dec 22, 2014.
I am assuming if all the above stuff let me in, the SVN stuff reulsting will let me in too, I am assuming all the dependencies I needed before are the same ones, so I hope this works.

NOT trying to spam my own thread, I am being nice, telling you what I am up to, so that I pay back for some of the advice I have had.

One piece of advice. Once Mageia-5 is released, Cauldron will become much more unstable than it is at the moment, and you are likely to experience frequent breakages if you update your system. So I recommend that as soon as Mageia-5 is released, you switch to that. Instructions here if you need them (changing "3" to "5", as that was written a while ago).

I found the solution. Well a solution for me.
Latest unstable
I am sure the RPM will work too, it is in those ports n backports thingie.... so I gotta head over to the Mageia OS and try it.... because the 0ad is pretty much essential game, the only game I like [X-Plane isn't a game.... uh, debatable]
Solution, for me, in the link.
https://launchpad.net/~wfg/+archive/ubuntu/0ad....
For the Mint I have, and now gonna see if it will do for the Mageia.
I'll be back...
8-)
