[SOLVED] Rpm build i586 on 64 bit

Postby pete910 » Aug 1st, '13, 01:39

As title , Is it possible to build 32 bit rpms on a 64bit providing you have the dev files for the 32 bit side?

Or, may I be better off with a 32bit vbox install to do the build?

Pete.

If you are using iurt to build your packages then you can prefix it with linux32 command. Not sure if it would work the same way for other commands.

Hello,
I'm trying to compile src gstreamer packages to i586 (required to run windows programs) on my x86_64 installation.
I see these posts and I checked also this page: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Packagers_RPM_tutorial
but I can't figure out how to achieve compiling the packages.
I tried the iurt command

linux32 iurt --repository http://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mir ... a/distrib/ --chrooted-urpmi http://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mir ... a/distrib/ --rebuild 8 i586 SRPMS/gstreamer1.0-plugins-base-1.18.5-1.mga8.src.rpm

I ended with success but where are the RPMS?

thanks a lot for help
Ant

Please don‘t highjack 9 years old closed threads.

For iurt:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Iurt

At which steps do you have problems:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Packaging_for_beginners

BTW you don't need to rebuild these packages because they are already build for Mageia. You only can't see the i586 packages if you have the x86_64 ones installed.

Thanks a lot for your answer.
Sorry to have replied to this old thread. I didn't know this is not used here.

This page https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Packaging_for_beginners gives the steps to build packages on the same arch, as far as a understand.

I found on your advice the i586 packages on the repositories so you're right, I don't need to rebuild them.
Can I safely install them on the same system if I already have x86_64 packages installed ?

thank you very much

Please create a new thread for your issue, and described what you actually want to do and for what windows program you require that.
