Then either use su - root or gksu gedit as your normal user.

Without using gedit, you can just su to root and then use any editor your want, e.g. vi:

OK, I tried that entry and was also unsuccessful and I think that maybe needs to be edited in a programmng environment. Whatever it takes, I'll leave that to tarakbumba or someone more familiar in that area. I won't start another thread on it as I'm busy trying to solve another problem.

@azziam, did you install latest updates? They should solve the issues except theme issue. I have installed GNOME to my two machines. One has blue, like you; and the other has orange window borders in almost all Mate themes.

I got the update that fixed single-cllick. I see no other updates from your repos. I still can't log in to Gnome 3. You can see by the last few posts that I am unable to edit polkit. I just checked again and get no updates available so I'm up to date for now.

That's weird. I pushed mate-session-manager and mate-polkit updates last night. I get those updates from my repo. You may need to run urpmi --auto-update

Remember I'm new to Mageia and I'm not a Linux expert. I need to study more when I can get time. urpmi is new to me.

It's --auto-update, minus the "s"

OK, good! It listed all mediums as up-to-date but said it was installing 38 depencies and your updates were included. I got updates for session-manager, marco, polkit, and themes plus the other bunch of stuff I must have been needing.

Cool. I just logged out (switch user) and logged into Gnome 3 as root, and back with no problem. Themes are still messed up but I haven't rebooted.

When running the auto-updates...

Both related to the mate-themes rpm. First one was installing the new rpm, second one was removing the old. Is this a bad script inside the rpm?

It is not related with MATE i think. It is about GNOME and it won't make any harm.

It was on the mate-themes package though. I wasn't installing anything for GNOME, just the updates for mate that you've pushed.

I didn't see those warnings when I did the update or I would have posted. Any change in behavior of themes? When I first clicked on Window Borders it showed many with orange title bars including Traditional Green. Clicking on any of them still gives a blue title bar. Then all in the list that were orange are black after I've selected green laguna.

I've got another issue...
Despite the power management settings being set to turn off the display after 30 minutes... it never does go off. Gnome, GnomeClassic, and KDE all work fine.

My screen goes blank after 15 minutes although it's set to stay on for an hour with screensaver to come on after 30 minutes. Screensaver comes on OK if set for shorter idle period. I think it wasn't working right in Gnome either. I'll test more when I get a chance but there definitely is a problem with power management.

Sometimes when I boot up I have no sound. In PCLOS I could use "service alsa force-restart" (I believe that's the command) to turn on the audio driver but that command didn't work in Mageia. If it happens again, I'll try logging out and in.

About the issues with traditional green, I discovered today that if you set it to TradGreen theme, then customize it and change the window border to something else, and then BACK to TradGren, the correct colors are there. Huh. Odd.

A few days ago it seemed the screensaver and power saving was partly working here and then for a few days, I was unable to boot this OS because it would get part way and quit. Today it boots fine and I tried again the power saving and screensaver and neither is working at all. I tried the trick get colors in the desktop theme and trad. green stayed blue on top just as before. Glad it worked differently for someone. Again, it does the same for me if I log into a Gnome 3 session and try to customize so I don't think it's a Mate problem.

Did you fully set it to another window border, close the theme settings, go back in and change window border only back to tradgreen? That was my step by step.

Yes, just tried it again exactly as you said.. I'm going to leave it this way and see if it decides to turn green after a while! Maybe after a reboot.

Hi again. Sorry for late answer. I'm in the middle of moving another city. It will took a while to get a new home and working interternet connection. So please be patient until August (sorry for that too late, i know). There is a bug in mate-screensaver and it has been fixed upstream, also there are new bugfix releases but i can not package them for now. I have committed all mate packages to mageia svn repo and will wait final discussion on my proposal. Thank you all for testing those packages and feedbacking. Hope i can manage to set my new home and internet before expected date.

I have just installed Mate on a new Mageia 3 KDE 32-bit setup and it refuses to load. It will 'pause' for about 30 secs on the Mageia splash screen, do a screen resolution-change, then just sit there. Thankfully, killing X brings up the login manager, (I normally login automatically) allowing me to load the KDE desktop environment.

Is there anything else I can do go get it to load?
