No mdm, sorry. It is maintained outside of Mate DE. Please use lightdm or other dms instead.

ralgith, do you use compiz? Also which dm do you use? I can see a lot of errors in your .xsession-errors file and they look weird to me. It may be related with your Xorg setup. Because, you' re the only user who lost window title bar completely. One more thing, if you type "marco --replace" in terminal, does the problem go away?

I have changed my mind. Free software is freedom to choose, right? Please try mdm-display-manager package from my unofficial repo. I ' ll add another mdm-themes package too.

NOTE: MDM will not enter to official repos. I' ll try to provide an unofficial/unsupported package for Mga4 when it is released.

I'm unable to add the repoes needed for this for some reason. Both return:

Code: Select all
...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 22

From what I can dig up this is similar to a 404. Is there something wrong with the repoes?

Should be fine now. Please try again.

It's still returning curl failed, but now with the addition of:
Code: Select all
no metadata found for medium "tarakbumba-i586"

I'm trying to get the 64bit version if that helps.

Unfortunately yes. It's still saying that it can't find any metadata for the mediums tarakbumba-64 and tarakbumba-i586. I'm really not sure what's wrong with it. I'm using the commands on the front page* as root. I don't think it's anything on my end, but if no one else is having this problem it might be on my end. If it helps I'm using Mageia 3 on the 3.10.24 kernel with KDE 4.10.5.

Hi,

thanks to carry out Mate on Mageia. Now I use it on Mageia 4. ;)

What are the differences between 1.6.1 version and 1.6.2 version ?

Not much. They are the bug fix releases over 1.6 series; do not provide new features.

I can not solve the problem with curl. Please ensure that you use wget instead of curl for urpmi. If someone know how to solve this problem with curl please notify me.

Ah. Yes. That worked. Now, for something that is on my end and belies my level of experience, what are the names of the packages I need to install with urpmi? IE, "urpmi 'package name'"

If you want to install a minimal MATE Desktop install task-mate-minimal; if you want to install complete MATE Desktop install task-mate.

Hi,

I guess Mate 1.8 will be available for Mageia 5 but not available for Mageia 4 later ?

Mate 1.8 will be available for Mageia 5. Currently Mate is at 1.7 development version. 1.8 will be available after Mageia 4 release. Our updates and backports policy prevents us to let 1.8 in stable releases. So, Mate 1.8 may not be in Mageia 4; unless it is discussed and agreed by other devs to backport. If i can manage to do, i may provide unofficial, unsupported, use-as-it-is 1.8 rpms for Mageia 4; but that is not a promise...

Hey, just wanted to let you know that I got it installed and it's running great. The only issue I've had is that it defaults my external speakers to mute. It's more of a minor annoyance than anything else though. The last OS I'd used MATE (Ubuntu I forget which version) did the same thing. I think it might be a gstreamer problem. Thanks for the good work tarakbumba!

Airmaik, there is something wrong in your setup. There should be no icewm related errror messages like those. Also, i think problem comes from them; there is no another obvious cause...

Code: Select all
/etc/menu.d/icewm: line 9: /home/prodromos/.icewm/menu: No such file or directory
