[SOLVED] Firefox and Thunderbird update policies

Postby gianvacca » Nov 6th, '12, 01:04

Hi guys, I'm new to the community since I switched to mageia only last weekend. My only disappointment with mageia so far is the version of Firefox and Thunderbird. I was used to Mandriva that updates these packages regularly. Is there any reason why Mageia is stuck to 10, instead? Can I expect an update soon?
Thanks,

Alessio

I've noticed that also. I'm not sure why they don't upgrade it sooner, but it may have to do with stability. What I do is just manually download the the lastest version and use it instead.

Mga 3 will be release by the first of the year and I'm running the Alpha now which includes the latest version.

Just some thoughts!

Stable releases of Mageia provide the ESR versions of Firefox (and Thunderbird):

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/

This enables stability and security to be maintained with less maintenance effort by Mageia's overworked volunteers, than would be required if each new version were to be provided.

The latest security updates were provided on October 29th:

It is actually the same as the latest Firefox release regarding stability and security fixes, but not introducing any new features.
This is mentioned in release notes, and was discussed widely prior to the release to provide more stability and less version changes for our users

It will be switched to next ESR Version (17.0.X) when that one is released as a normal security update.
