pidgin not fully supported

Postby almusalimalmusalimah » May 30th, '11, 00:49

hello mageia packagers

can any one of you make a full support for pidgin

i saw its need more care about its extensions

there are no more than 6 or maybe 8 packages for it at the repo

so how about building the other missing packages for it like these extensions

http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ThirdPartyPlugins

thanks to all of you

and best wishes to all of you

Please file a rpm request bug report about the missing packages. One request per package.

That depends. It may be sufficient to file a bug about "Pidgin plugins" - but only if a true Pidgin adept sees this who knows all the 100 missing packages. Again this may be too much for one packager, so he will let it be or he will organize a "Support Pidgin" rallye. You see, it's a matter of chance.

It could also be that there are packages which already come together as dependencies. And it could be that really each and every plugin needs its own request.

You could start by reporting about "MIssing pidgin plugins", and inside the report you list all the packages (better make a list and attach it to the report).

Suggesting that all third party plugins for pidgin should be packaged is a bit like suggesting that all available extensions for firefox should be packaged. It is simply not practical. Open a bug report for each of those plugins that you will use. If a packager agrees that those are useful to have in Mageia, then packages may be provided.

Some of those plugins seem to have been packaged for Mandriva 2010.1. If one of those plugins meets your requirements, then ask for the package to be imported to Mageia.

will Mr.jkerr82508

suggestion like that will not be so good for mageia packages packagers

just imagin that me or you that some person come to us with that suggestion

definitly i will not help him

because 100 packages when we make it and send it to repositories

and see after some times that those packages never been downloaded from repo

this will shock us definitly and you know after these things what will happen

===========================

but my suggestion here is supporting for other protocols (( correct me if i am wrong by naming it with this name )) like

facebook / twitter / msn / yahoo ......and the other important ones

so how about it

============================

i will start to fill request at bugzilla
