LTSP

Postby celiofk » Apr 1st, '11, 14:34

A solução do Ubuntu e do OpenSuse são bem melhores, pois é feito usando o NBD; e o Fedora ainda usa o NFS.
Será que é possível desenvolver uma solução nativa para a Magéia?
Fico no aguardo de uma resposta e desejo muito sucesso a vocês desenvolvedores.

Abraços,

Célio

This is a quick Google translation:

Do not know if the request packet is to be done in this forum. If not, by redirecting
Please.
I wonder if there is intent to develop packages for LTSP.
If so, I would ask that was not done as Mandriva. Theirs is based on
Fedora and does not work. You need to install several additional packages, including kudzu fedora.
And the performance of K12Linux Fedora is not the best. The solution of Ubuntu and OpenSuse are
much better because it is done using the NBD, and Fedora also uses NFS.
Is it possible to develop a native solution for mageia?
I'm waiting for an answer and I wish much success to you developers.

Hugs,
Célio

cheers,
Bernd
Now after my words of profound wisdom, I'm going back to procrastinating.

Thanks, Bernd

Next time I'll try use Google.
A correction: "...and Fedora uses NFS yet..."

Dunno if there is going to be LTSP support...

I guess nothing prevents that form getting in mageai packages but we'll need someone to take the thing on he's shoulders :)

Volunteers ?

Everybody willing to help is welcome ;)

@maat

I'm not a developer but, if someone makes LTSP packages, I could test it.

Best regards

I know this is an old thread, but just in case anyone is monitoring it ...

I too have been looking at LTSP but have not found it trivial to get running under Mageia. As I don't have a huge amount of time for this project, I searched on the web again and found that some are arguing that X2Go is superior in performance to LTSP. X2Go is directly available in Mageia 2 (apart from the PXE boot part), so you may want to try it.

At this very moment I am running a Mageia 2 X2Go client on a 10 year old laptop connected to the Mageia 2 X2Go server running on this machine (a quad core server with 8G of RAM) and the laptop performs just as if I am directly connected for "normal" apps. However, video (and, I suspect, 3D which I have not tried) is not good.
Mandrake->Mandriva->Mageia starting in 2003. I really dislike another well-known distro starting with U.
