Dropbox to use with Dolphin in KDE4 Mageia1

Postby macxi » May 8th, '11, 23:30

Hi,

I use Dropbox (32bits) in KDE4 Mandriva 2010.2 and it works very well with Dolphin:

1. 32bits: http://www.getdropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86
2. 64bits: http://www.getdropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86_64

I tested it (32bits) and didn't work in Mageia Beta2.

I did a tutorial about Dropbox in KDE4/Dolphin in the wiki Mandriva Brazil (In english with google language tool).

Dropbox package "nautilus-dropbox" should not be used with KDE4, because can occur conflicts and crash.

I mentioned this in Bugzilla Mageia (https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1127)

    Ahmad Samir commented:
If the package in question isn't in the repos, then the report is INVALID (and
the reporter can open a topic at https://forums.mageia.org ).

And I'm here. How to make a package Dropbox to KDE4/Dolphin, to Mageia1?

Cheers :)

Yesterday, in Mgeia bugzilla, Marek Laane said about this packages kfilebox.

The Package kfilebox-0.4.7-2.mga1.i586.rpm which is in the Mageia repository.

I'll test it in Mageia beta2.

Site:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/kdropbox/

Unofficial KDE Dropbox client developed in QT. KFilebox (previously called KDropbox) offers almost the same features as the official Dropbox Linux application, but works on KDE.

To test, I installed the package kfilebox-0.4.7-2.mga1.i586.rpm in the Mageia beta 2.

After installation, were created the icons (in bottom panel) to access the dropbox,
but there isn't sync between packets of the Internet with the computer.

To synchronize the files from the dropbox on the Internet with the folders on the computer, go to the folder ".dropbox-dist" and give the command "./dropbox".

You can see the warning:

[xxxxxr@localhost .dropbox-dist]$ ./dropbox
Another instance of Dropbox (3034) is running!

Open the "system monitor" (ctrl+esc) and I close (kill) the process dropbox.

and give the command "./dropbox" again:

[xxxxxr@localhost .dropbox-dist]$ ./dropbox

After that, a dialog appears warning that this machine isn't connected with the dropbox and offers a link to connect.
Just access this link, and give login and password, ready. Is connected and starts the sync.

i installed the kfilebox but after installation i did nt have the gtk-wizard to configure my account, so i cant use this program.

I use dropbox in kde just with the daemon, i think it is ok to have this in the background, better than an application.

Everything i put in the folder Dropbox is synchronized so i am ok :)

Sorry to pick this up again, but at least for me the problem still exists (seems to be the case for the user above me as well).
I installed kfilebox 0.4.7, but I don't get a dialog box to setup Dropbox, also I have no tray icon. So I connected my computer and my account via the terminal. It worked, I see the Dropbox folder within Dolphin. But I am still missing the system tray icon.
Btw. I also tried this for instance: http://www.nixternal.com/kde-and-dropbox/ Same thing, no tray icon.

Code: Select all
bash-4.2$ uname -a
Linux localhost 2.6.38.8-desktop-10.mga #1 SMP Wed Jan 25 10:17:18 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Just a note that might help some folks. I was still having problems with Dropbox on Mageia 1 and I found the following from here

From the errata for Mandriva 2011 at http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2011.0_Erra ... s_not_work
-------------------
Dropbox GUI does not work

To solve: run this command in console as ordinary user (not root!):
rm -f ~/.dropbox-dist/libz.so.1
--------------------
I installed, downloaded the demon, stopped dropbox, ran this, and restarted dropbox and the icon appeared in the tray.

rob

This worked right away for me.
